Nahum

Nahum's prophecy is a diatribe against Nineveh. It is unfortunate that it is not possible to determine its chronological relationship with Jonah.

Commentary

2:3

The red army that carries out the Lord's judgment may indicate the significance of the red horseman in Revelation 6:2–4.

2:11–13

The references to lions hint at the Assyrian empire, whose lion symbol can still be seen in ancient statues. Assyria was defeated by Babylon in 612 BCE.
